About

Hello! I’m Marian. I live in Ontario, Canada with my husband and 13-year-old son. We have two older children — a 21-year-old daughter and a 19-year-old son — who are away at university and who occasionally drop by, bearing bags of laundry or entire suites of furnishings. I’m a thinker, a questioner, and a painfully earnest idealist who keeps sane (more or less) by keeping busy: I cook, bake, knit, read, sew, garden, and volunteer.

What’s the meaning behind greengreyandgezellig? Green is because I care deeply about the environment and living a green and healthy lifestyle. Grey is literal as well as figurative: it’s a nod to my age (50), as well as to my propensity to embark on deep, philosophical (aka long-winded), non-black-and-white musings. Gezellig is a Dutch term, one I often heard growing up as the daughter of a Dutch mother; loosely translated, it means cosy and comfortable.
